FONART (Fondo Nacional para el Fomento de las Artesanías) is the National Fund for the Promotion of Handicrafts, which is public trust of the Mexican federal government under the subdivision in the Ministry of Social Development, which responds to the need to promote human development as well as social and economic standards of Mexican artisans
FONART supports the Mexican artisans to improve their living standards and preserve the values of their traditional culture, linking the creativity of the craftsman with the end consumer, through support programs and effective marketing strategies that ensure positioning of craft products in the national and international markets. FONART also designs and executes actions based on long-term capacity building of individual and community artisans, enabling them to generate consistent resources.
FONART´s main objective is to support artisans which live in poverty, to preserve traditional techniques and designs, and to enhance their capabilities, by financing and encouraging creativity through technical assistance to develop new designs and marketing strategies to promote effective sales of their products.
